Kiteta Primary School Support
A 25-year partnership with the school where our story began.
Nothing should stand between these students and their potential.
Kiteta Primary School educates the children of the community that raised Stephen Mbuvi. Our mission here is simple: make sure nothing about the building, the water, the books or the supplies stands between these students and what they are capable of.
KITETA LIBRARY · 2001
The library of dreams
Two classrooms remodeled into a library, with book shipments from the United States. The first project, and still the reason the school trusts us.
WATER TANK · 2017–2021
Water, and the day students stopped carrying it
A 10,000-litre tank, then 100,000 litres in 2021. Two hundred and fifty students stopped carrying water to school every morning.
UNIFORMS · 2026
Two hundred and thirty uniforms
Full uniforms for every student in January, and PE kits the year before. Attendance is the quiet measure of whether a school is working.
Still needed
Block A is still waiting
Three classrooms, a failing roof, sixty students a day. Administration Block was finished in April; Block A needs renovation.
Twenty-five years, one school.
Books and pads made locally.
Books and study materials remain the most requested support, and we provide them as the curriculum requires.
Menstrual health distribution continues every year. Sixty or more girls receive reusable pads, each with a storage bag and training in care and hygiene, and since 2025 their mothers and other community women receive them too. The pads are made locally in Kenya, so the program also supports a small business that hires and trains local women.

A place to learn
“Before they came to renovate our classes, we were working under harsh conditions. There was dust in the classrooms, and the learners were getting colds and coughs because of it. Since the renovation, all has been well. We are in an environment that is conducive for learning.”

Confidence and belonging
“Learners are enjoying learning, and their performance has improved. Because of the uniforms, the pupils have built up their confidence. They are proud of their school, and they feel that sense of belonging. The school has become known, and the teachers who are here do not want to transfer.”

A future she can see
“What I enjoy most about learning here is the smart board. It has helped us interact with e-learning resources, where before we used to crowd around one laptop. I hope to become a doctor, so that I can help my community, encourage other girls to stay in school and be a role model to them.”

Support in everyday life
“Our children used to walk barefoot, so the shoes helped us a great deal. Then the sweaters came, because they used to feel the cold. They have supported us with food, and there was a time they helped the parents with school fees.”

Block A still needs its roof and classrooms renovated.
Block B was renovated in 2016 and is starting to need work again, so the care has to keep coming back round. The community also wants a computer lab, a feeding program, WiFi, and portable study lights for home. Solar power is under consideration to solve the ongoing electricity cost.
