Governance

Board & Team

SMG is governed by a six-member board that oversees every programme and every dollar. Listing them here is part of how we stay accountable to the community we serve and the donors who make the work possible.

Our Board Members

Pauline Mbuvi, President of Stephen Mbuvi Global.

Pauline Mbuvi

President

Pauline is a retired Certified Clinical Research Professional in cancer treatment. Kiteta is the community that raised her late husband, Stephen, and SMG continues the work their family and neighbours began in his memory. Her motto: “Brighten the corner where you are.”

Dr. Margaret Mwenda, Vice President of Stephen Mbuvi Global.

Dr. Margaret Mwenda

Vice President

Margaret serves in a Listening and Applied Learning role at the Chalmers Center for Economic Development. She came to SMG through the Mbuvi family. What inspires her most about this work is seeing children given the opportunity to realise their full potential.

Caroline Mbuvi McCoy, Secretary of Stephen Mbuvi Global.

Caroline Mbuvi McCoy

Secretary

Caroline is a philanthropy practitioner and strategic advisor who believes communities and leaders already hold what they need to grow. Her work is building the capital, trust and structural alignment that let that capacity show up. As Stephen’s daughter, she serves to honour her dad’s legacy and stay rooted to the community he came from.

Stephen M. Kiai, Treasurer of Stephen Mbuvi Global.

Stephen M. Kiai

Treasurer

Stephen is a healthcare professional serving as a Registered Nurse and Advanced Practice Nurse Practitioner. He is brother-in-law to Pauline and her late husband, Stephen Mbuvi, and is tied to Kiteta through the family’s shared commitment to the community. He serves to support Pauline in keeping Stephen’s memory alive.

Dr. Eugene L. Moore, board member of Stephen Mbuvi Global.

Dr. Eugene L. Moore

Board Member

Eugene is an educator, author and nonprofit leader. He first learned about SMG on a visit to Kenya, where the Mbuvi family’s commitment and the dedication of the teachers at Kiteta Primary left a deep impression. He serves because he believes every child deserves the opportunity to thrive.

Crystal Cazier, board member of Stephen Mbuvi Global.

Crystal Cazier

Board Member

Crystal has worked in global health programme management and policy development since 2014. A long-time friend of the Mbuvi family, she lived in Kenya as a high schooler, and Pauline helped bridge her transition back to the United States and set her on her career in global health. She serves to advance SMG’s community-led mission.

Every project, vetted by the community and overseen by this board.
